Do I need a prescription for a COVID-19 test?
No. Our urgent cares are performing COVID-19 tests on both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients without a prescription. Your provider will talk to you about the best testing option for your unique situation.
Do Hackensack Meridian Urgent Cares offer rapid COVID-19 tests?
Hackensack Meridian Urgent Cares offer rapid COVID-19 antigen tests.
Should I get a PCR test or a Rapid Antigen test?
Rapid antigen tests are most effective in people being tested at height of illness, when the virus’ presence in the body is highest.
People with and without symptoms can get a PCR test to confirm their COVID-19 status. PCR tests are more accurate in detecting the virus in those without symptoms or those with symptoms who may not be at the peak of their illness.
How long do I have to wait for COVID-19 test results?
Rapid antigen test results are available within 15 minutes. However, it is important to note rapid antigen tests are not for everyone.
PCR test results are usually available within 24 – 48 hours, but can take longer depending upon volume and test availability. Due to high call volume, we ask that you log onto the portal with information you were given during your visit to check results. You may have been given information for the following portals: HMHMyChart.org, Patient.labcorp.com, or MyQuest.QuestDiagnostics.com.
If it has not been 3 days since your test was performed, please wait before calling the site and continue to check the online portals for results.
I am in need of a pre-operative COVID-19 test. How many days before my procedure should I come in to get tested?
Patients are advised to schedule their COVID-19 tests 72 to 96 hours (3 to 4 days) PRIOR to their procedure. Please double check with your doctor or surgery center to confirm how soon before your procedure you should get tested.
What is the cost of a COVID-19 test?
Insurance coverage for COVID-19 testing may vary. Please verify costs and coverage with your individual insurance carrier directly.

Our Brick, Jackson, Toms River, Forked River and Long Beach Island locations require pre-registration for COVID-19 testing. You must pre-register prior to arriving for a COVID-19 test. When should I head to an Emergency Department instead?
Patients with more serious symptoms or those in some level of crisis such as thoughts of suicide, trouble with drug or substance abuse or those who are experiencing delusional symptoms (unable to differentiate what is real versus imagined) will need to go to a Behavioral Health clinic, professional, or a local Emergency Room that is equipped for a higher level of behavioral health care. Who is eligible for behavioral health treatment at Urgent Care?
Individuals 13 years and older; patients under 18 will need a parent or guardian to sign in and to either provide insurance coverage or self-pay.
Are certain diagnoses restricted from receiving treatment?
No, we treat all individuals 13 and over who are seeking behavioral health support, excluding individuals who are at an immediate risk of harm to self or others; we strongly encourage those in imminent risk to call 911 or go directly to the Emergency Department.
Can I keep coming to the Urgent Care for behavioral health treatment?
Due to high demand and the need to provide immediate coverage to as many individuals as possible, we provide no more than 3 appointments, including initial intake. We will assist you with finding a psychiatric provider, but are unable to see patients on a long-term basis.
What insurance is accepted?
We accept most major private insurance companies, as well as Medicaid and Medicare. Anyone without insurance coverage may be seen but will be asked to pay prior to appointment via cash or credit card.
How much are appointments if I don’t have insurance?
Initial intakes are $350, and follow-up appointments are $199.
Am I guaranteed refills of my current/previous medications?
All medication scripts are up to the discretion of the psychiatric prescriber for that shift. We cannot make any guarantees that all medications will be approved. Some medications may require further testing as determined by a medical professional.
If I am withdrawing from drugs or alcohol, can I be seen at Urgent Care?
Because withdrawal from drugs, alcohol, and other substances can be fatal, we strongly encourage you to go directly to the Emergency Department or to call 911. We can provide appropriate resources for inpatient and/or outpatient substance use treatment, but we do not provide treatment for those in active withdrawal.
