Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation
Acute inpatient rehabilitation is the highest level of rehabilitative care available. At SRI, patients who require an inpatient stay are cared for by a highly skilled team including board certified doctors of physical medicine, rehabilitation-certified nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech language pathologists, prosthetists/orthotists, recreation therapists, dietitians, case managers and social workers. The team collaborates to achieve the best outcomes possible for each patient.
Outpatient Rehabilitation
With a full array of services located within one facility, Shore Rehabilitation Outpatient Rehabilitation Program is an excellent choice for patients in the community requiring evaluation and treatment of neurological and orthopedic conditions including stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, neuropathy, Parkinson’s disease, vestibular disorders, amputee and limb loss, musculoskeletal injuries, arthritis, swallowing disorders and complex medical conditions.
Our experienced staff of physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech language pathologists have specialty certifications that allow us to provide the best care for our patients. A unique service we offer to our community is the Behind the Wheel Driver education and Training for readiness to drive post illness/injury. In addition, we schedule wheelchair seating and positioning clinics for specialty diagnoses such as Multiple Sclerosis, ALS and complex medical comorbidities impacting patient function.
Our interdisciplinary Outpatient Program model includes physician guidance and support from Licensed Clinical Social Workers. This allows us to offer comprehensive care and resources to the community we serve. Our outpatient team provides the highest quality outcome-based care through one-on-one patient sessions focused on improving function, along with patient and family education to maintain and continue progress
Aftercare Program for Community
The Aftercare Program is designed to optimize rehabilitative management of orthopedic and neurological conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease as well as amputee rehabilitation. Our physician-directed program maximizes functional recovery while reducing preventable hospital admissions. Patients learn about improving physical function, decreasing pain and community resources to remain active and healthy.

- Shore Rehabilitation Institute offers an experienced, exceptional team of stroke rehabilitation professionals who are determined to help all patients reach their highest level of function after stroke. Medical studies have clearly demonstrated that early, vigorous, inter-disciplinary treatment as well as close medical follow-up to prevent future strokes is the key to achieving optimal recovery.
- Our team is dedicated to encouraging motor recovery to improve and restore function. Each patient’s care plan includes doctors of physical medicine, physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech language pathologists and 24-hour nursing care.
- The team meets with family members to review progress, educate family members and provide suggestions for home modifications if necessary.
- Brain Injury Rehabilitation – acquired and traumatic brain injury
- Upon admission to Shore Rehabilitation institute, the team sets up an individualized program to meet the physical and cognitive needs of the patient to achieve the highest level of independence possible.
- We recognize the critical role of social work in helping the patient and family adjust to the injury. Our certified therapeutic recreation therapists work with the team to assist with community reintegration and re-learning adaptive leisure skills. We also provide neuropsychology/psychology services to address the cognitive and behavioral needs of the patient.
- Our therapy team has specialized certifications in brain injury and neurological disorders to help patients maximize recovery.
- Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, transverse myelitis other progressive conditions and non-progressive conditions.
- Shore Rehabilitation Institute offers a holistic team approach in treating chronic progressive/non-progressive neurological conditions. We recognize the need to educate patients and families on disease management and improve the patient’s quality of life for successful return to home.
- Comprehensive rehabilitation for cardio-pulmonary conditions, medically complex conditions for complex surgeries and cancer-related conditions.
- Our highly trained physiatrists work closely with cardiologists, pulmonologists and specialists including oncologists to provide medical management for the patients to maximize their function.
- Orthopedic/Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation for issues related to trauma such as motor vehicle accidents, falls, degenerative arthritis, sports injuries and work-related injuries.

- Amputee Rehabilitation for patients with limb loss including pre-prosthetic training, Prosthetic management, gait and functional training

- Upon admission to Shore Rehabilitation institute, the team sets up an individualized program to meet the physical and emotional needs of the patient to achieve the highest level of function possible. They also evaluate and prescribe assistive technology including customized wheelchair seating and positioning systems, orthotics and adaptive equipment for patients to achieve independence
- Cognitive Rehabilitation – for memory, attention and problem solving.
- Our licensed speech language pathologists and occupational therapists are professionals that address areas of problem solving, memory, attention and social interactions. The goals of cognitive rehabilitation are highly individualized, and the team works closely with psychologists and neuropsychologists to help patients achieve the best outcomes. Strategies may include relearning targeted mental abilities, social interaction and pragmatics, and strengthening intact functions.
- Vestibular/Vision Rehabilitation/Balance Disorders

A team of Certified Therapeutic Recreational Therapists who work closely with team to teach patients adaptive leisure skills and assist with community reintegration.
Clinical Dietitians/ Nutritionists who assess patients’ nutritional needs, develop and implement nutrition programs, and evaluate and report the results. They also confer with doctors and other healthcare professionals to coordinate medical and nutritional needs.
- Respiratory therapists—evaluate, treat, and care for patients with breathing or other cardiopulmonary disorders. Practicing under the direction of a physician, respiratory therapists consult with physicians and other healthcare staff to help develop and modify patient care plans.
