Home Care That Fits Your Needs

HomeCareIf there is one thing everyone knows about Karel Schnitzer, it's that she's not one to slow down. The 69-year-old retired Reader's Digest editor keeps busy editing the newspaper of the Four Seasons in Lakewood, an active adult community where she lives with her husband, Joel. She is also on many committees and clubs.

So when Karel found out she needed foot surgery that would require her to stay off her feet for six weeks, she knew she was going to need some help.

Karel reached out to Meridian At Home, which came highly recommended from friends. "I knew that I would get excellent, quality care from Meridian At Home," says Karel. "Every year they host our annual health fair at our clubhouse, and I am always impressed."

Trying to navigate home care services can be challenging, but with Meridian At Home, Karel was able to get all the help she needed without any confusion. "We offer so many services to help our patients on an hourly or live-in basis, including meal preparation, bathing assistance, light housekeeping, transportation, and medication management," says Kim Scangarella, R.N., director, Meridian At Home.

Meridian At Home also offers free consultations to potential patients to help them assess what services they will need. "Kim was great!" Karel says. "She even helped navigate my insurance, and that was a big help. I didn't know what kind of care I was entitled to and what I needed to cover out of pocket."

Because Karel had to stay completely off her feet after surgery, Kim determined after the initial consultation that she would need live-in assistance to start. As she progressed, she would be able to scale back to hourly care.

"I can't say enough good things about Meridian At Home," says Karel. "Besides all the great medical care I was given, they cooked and lightly cleaned, took me outside, and ran errands for me. I always felt safe and that I was in good hands."
